Preset System

Save layers once, with everything on them, and share them as preset files that carry their media.

Watch a 3D title get saved in the Layer Saver and added to another comp with one click.

Save and add

Studio

The Layer Saver sits next to Effects. Select the layers you want to keep, a title, a background, a 3D logo or a whole scene, press Save and give them a name. They become a chip.

  • Click a chip to pick it, click again to add it: the layers come in at the top of the open comp, from its first frame, selected and ready to change. One Undo takes them out again.
  • From a comp of another size, they land in the middle, and comp-sized solids and adjustment layers take on the new size.
  • Saving under a name that exists replaces the old set.

Everything comes along

Studio

A saved set is the layers exactly as you built them, nothing flattened:

  • Keyframes, effects, masks, expressions, modifiers, the Text Animator, character styles, 3D settings and materials.
  • Precomps with everything inside them, also precomps inside precomps.
  • The links between the saved layers: parents, track mattes, and layers that effects or modifiers point to. Links to layers you didn’t save are cut, so nothing points into the void.
  • If a precomp name is already taken in the project, the new one is numbered, and footage the project already has is used again.

Categories

Studio

Sort your sets the way you work. + adds a category; right-click one to rename or delete it. Each one folds away and shows how many sets it holds.

Move a set by dragging it onto a category, or with right-click ▸ Move to. Sets without a category stand at the top under Saved Layers. When you save, the category you used last is already picked.

Preset files you can share

Studio

Every set is a single .hlayers file, and it carries its media with it: a copy of each video, image, 3D model, HDRI and material preset the layers use. So a preset works on any computer, exactly as it was made, even a complex one with footage, textures and 3D.

  • Export: right-click a chip ▸ Export… and you have one file to send to a client, share with your team or sell as a preset pack.
  • Import: right-click a category or the empty space ▸ Import…, or simply drop the file onto the window.
  • When you add the set, its media go into a Layer Saver Media folder next to your project, each file only once, however often you use it.
  • A set can hold up to 1 GB of media. If it would be bigger, the app tells you which files are the largest.

Fonts and plug-ins are not packed: whoever uses the preset needs them installed.

Where your presets live

Studio

Your sets are files in Documents ▸ Hope Creative ▸ Layer Saver, a subfolder for each category. Right-click a chip or a category ▸ Show in Folder to open it.

Because they are ordinary files, you can back them up or sync the folder between computers. Files you copy in show up by themselves, no restart needed.
